The Perfect Enemy!

I have read posts on social media, been taught in bible study and have heard messages preached that FAITH is the opposite FEAR and this is so true. Well a couple of weeks ago, I got a revelation that there is an ENEMY of faith as well. The enemy is called TIME. It is a true enemy because IT…CAN’T…BE…STOPPED! Defied…yes. Defeated…no. The old proverb “Time and tide wait for no man” sums this up in a nutshell. No matter how hard you try to FIGHT it, time just keeps ticking. Let me just pause right here for a few seconds to let that settle in. Count slowly…3,2,1. Okay! Now if you’re like me, this brings up an interesting question. How do you fight time? The bible says in Ecclesiastes 3 “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”. The New International Version (NIV) says it this way, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens”. After reading this we have the answer to our question. The answer is that time cannot be FOUGHT it must be FACED. Should we take another pause to let this settle too? I think so. Count slowly…5,4,3,2,1. Now this statement raises yet another interesting question. How do we face time? Well let me encourage you today!

I have learned a thing or two in my day and one thing I’ve found to be true, we believe that tomorrow IS promised. Come on now. You know you do. Don’t tell that fib! You know you believe that famous song from the 1960's, “Time is on my Side”, which was BEFORE I was born by the way. I’m just being facetious, but seriously, we EXPECT tomorrow to come; therefore, we don’t FACE time. The bible calls it “redeeming” the time but we regular folk say “making the most” of time. Now I’m not encouraging you to develop a death wish or anything but it’s this unspoken but ever-present thought, “I’ve got time”, that lets us procrastinate, push back our dreams and continue to talk about what we’re going to do but don’t. Let me prove it with one final thought-provoking question. What would you do if you knew by 3:00 pm tomorrow your life would end? Oh…it just got real! Everything shifts! What was so “important” suddenly isn’t. “Did I fulfill my purpose?” becomes a nagging question. Things that we usually get upset and hold grudges for are suddenly trivial. It’s not even worth it! Saying I love you would become as vital as breathing. Missed opportunities and unfulfilled dreams now become major regrets. “I wish I had” is a constant thought that rings over and over and all the time wasted now becomes clear. I’ll pause one final time to let this settle in. Count slowly…10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. After my typing all this I have changed my position on the answer to the previous question, how do we face time? The answer is…NOW! Don't waste it! LIVE!!!
